New to this thread. Missed the EMC runu. Looking to buy.

Hitachi appearss to be a non -event for precisely the reasons stated in the EMC release. If a usere is satisfied with EMC now way he will let HP install Hitachis and have two systems to meld and maintain. If HP doesn't sell, then customer who wants EMC solution can get it from Dell in spades.

New opportunities? Anyone know for sure wheter EMC will be a player>

Intel Data Centrs/e-commerce intiative should require a lot of storage units.

Digitization of Tv stations (i.e. replacement of tape library with disk storage) should be large market for arrays. EMC??

Digital movie theaters where content is shipped via satellite to the movie plex rather than via film reels. Theater must have data storage? EMC??

Aloha

Jeff,

Tony, you sure get around. I thought you were an AMAT/chip mfg kind of guy
only.

Boy, I had you guys faked out, huh? ;-)

AgILE, mobILE, hostILE and versatILE. Football coach said he wanted those attributes in his athletes once. Have to have those in this business too, right? Well, not sure about hostile.

Good move into EMC. Guess we'll have these few days of selloff. Like I did mention last week, Hitachi has gotten very aggressive price-wise in the storage market. Obviously they're also going after some big accounts, like HP. HDS (Hitachi Data Systems) makes IBM compatible mainframes and storage (open re platform, software). All Hitachi (~$38 billion sales/year) posted a big loss last year, ended 3/31/99 for them. They're coming out swinging on the new year.

My contact who's up with the Iceberg sourcing followon at IBM (was STK, could become EMC), was out yesterday. I'll look for him today.

Tony

Jeff,

bought EMC
today instead of more AMAT.

Woops. Well, Jeff, look at it as an opportunity to learn the storage business with the rest of us. And, how 'bout that AMAT!!!
