DRAM Oversupply Has Infineon On Hold

techweb.com

Price of DRAM is continuing to decline. Only $44 for 64 Meg PC100 at www.pricewatch.com. About half of what it was 5 months ago.

Yes, that section really bothered me. I guess I should just chalk it up to a bureaucratic speech designed to obfuscate the subject for the analysts.

Take this line: ...we brought new product to market of substantially higher demonstratable [sic] value, especially in terms of improved resolution, higher throughput, and lower cost of operation. And then priced products in such a manner as to share that increased value with our customers, resulting in higher ASPs [average sales price] for Cymer.

Now, the concept of value is "what you get for the price". So what does he mean by "share that increased value with our customers"?

Anyway, despite the muddy language it's clear enough that CYMI thinks it can concede the low-cost part of its market, and is resigned to loosing market share. I don't like that.
