Good response, I can see your passionate about your technology. These add-ons are no doubt good but I'm wondering if the corporate world really needs them; basic 98/NT file/print sharing is good enough ? Also regarding NDS as a preferred directory service I haven't seen that in my consulting yet; LDAP/X500 and NIS in UNIX shops are the biggies. NIS is favoured for heterogenous UNIX shops.

Other than directory/file/print services what is Novell offering ? What OS does the server run on top of ?

p.s. I always remember the old days fiddling with config.sys to get those damn IPX & IPXODI drivers installed

Novell is also heading up the next generation of LDAP which is LDUP (a major component of LDAP that is currently missing which allows Directory Services to replicate information amoung each other - this is currently not possible with LDAP - BIG LIMITATION).

Are you familiar with slurpd? It is a replication daemon the uses LDAP to replicate multiple slapd servers. (www.openldap.org)

I'm curious if your statements are because you are unaware of these Directory Server implementations or if you have experience with them and don't consider them worth mentioning. Personally, I've not had any problems with them, but haven't seen them used for any massive projects.

This guy makes you look like a wimp when it comes to hating Microsoft. I am sustained by the thought of you and him, standing at a freeway offramp someday, holding out signs that say, "will code for food".

Hey, thread. It's one thing to bash Toy's biased, inaccurate predictions and lack of investment experience. Its another to argue with his knowledge of NOVL's products and how they fill the gaps in MSFT's capabilities. He knows what he is talking about on that subject.
