Did Alan Lutz have any part in moving you out of Nortel, you seem to have quite a axe to grind.

Definately a fair question. I don't know Francois, but I do know several ex-BNR engineers who also left around that time. They all say they left because it had become a horrible place to work. One said "They [NT] were on top of the world and blew it." Another said it had become a mecca for Machiavellian types who thrive on office politics.

Having said that, those years also coincide with the virtual elimination of barriers to Canadian engineers working in the US, and let's face it, it's much easier to get disgusted with your current situation when someone is throwing suitcases of money at you.

But, having said that, the ex-BNR guys I know are exceptionally fine engineers. Which also makes sense, since BNR took the cream from Canadian grad schools.

Glen: The COO is responsible for the entity. For the N+1 time ,the ball has again been dropped . The shortcomings which are evident to me as an Outsider should have been addressed 12 mths ago and earlier.

It may be necessary for the COO to now appoint an outside Consultant for a solution of his Production problems. This is the usual formality when Board supported Cronnies are to be dislodged.

The earlier done the better.

Glenn,

No axe to grind here. Just an opinion from someone on the inside at the time. Stern/Lutz played no part in me leaving Nortel since I only left in 97. All the items I've mentionned were common knowledge and rumor mill discussions at Nortel after the duo departed.

The point is (and you may choose to ignore it if you wish) that Lutz has a track record which in my opinion is less than stellar and again in my opinion Lutz is not a top tier CEO.

Just offering it up FWIW but if it is too hard to accept as data for people then I will gladly step back to the background...

P.S. On the Canadian brain drain - there is no doubt that this is why
I am here. Earning power is night and day here compared to
Canada and this trend will continue until Chretien/Martin decide to take action and lower taxes. Personally, I do plan to go back
in a few years - don't want to send my kids to US schools...
