Both good posts, yours and Aloha's. Your position trading description is very close also to what I do. I use BRCM, CMGI, MSPG and others as well as stocks in favored sectors like DLJ to trade. I also leave a lot on the table; however, the trading portion of the total has helped the whole portfolio to impressive gains.

Unlike you, I haven't decided on a definite sell point for these trading positions but mostly follow the indexes to decide when to get out. A good exit strategy is necessary and I need to be more definite about sells. (sometimes have held during a sell-off and had to wait for the next up cycle, which could be months, to get out!)<g>

In my mind, I consider that position trading is distinguished from day trading since day traders many times are just scalping small gains while position trading usually results in significant gains as you noted.

Also, sometimes good performers get moved into the long term hold category.
