State Farm Estimates Tornado Damage at $183 Million BLOOMINGTON, Ill., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- State Farm Insurance today projected it will process about 30,000 homeowners claims in Oklahoma and Kansas as a result of the devastating tornadoes that hit that area Monday. State Farm, the largest home and auto insurer in both states, estimated that homeowners claims will result in payment of about $135 million to its customers. In addition, the company expects to pay $48 million to repair and replace about 12,000 State Farm customer vehicles damaged by the storms. ''Insurance can't replace the lives lost to these powerful and merciless tornadoes and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and friends,'' said Steve Williams, vice president of claims for State Farm Fire and Casualty Company. ''The task State Farm began late Monday night is to help our customers quickly recover and rebuild their lives. We're providing immediate emergency financial assistance when it's needed and we're working to get these claims handled as quickly as possible.'' State Farm sent an additional 300 representatives to the storm area to handle claims. They joined the more than 2,300 State Farm employees, agents and agent staff members who currently live and work in Oklahoma and Kansas. Williams emphasized that these claim and damage estimates were calculated very early in the assessment process and could change. State Farm insures about one in every three insured homes in the area hit by tornadoes in Oklahoma and about one in every four insured homes in Kansas.
