Voltaire, I agree with you. I am starting to buy back AOL here after
profit taking at eps time.
I am bemused by the AOL bears and assorted self-labeled technophiles-AOL-bears.
Does anybody really think that AT&T wnd CMCST have a lock on cable?
WAKE UP FOLKS.
There is a little group of companies called baby bells that have been giving T a hell ofa time since the break up. They won't let Ma'Bell in in that all important " last mile " into homes which they control. Now with cable, T can begin to get in, HOWEVER, does anybody think that the baby bells will just sit there and watch mamma eat their pie. The answer is no.
Only reason baby bells haven't offered cable so far is because they didn't have to. they have no competition and they are trying to squeeze the last drop of blood out of copper wire using DSL and such.
However they will rapidly come out IMHO.
Has anybody calculated the market cap of Ameritech+Bell Atlantic+USWest+SBC+USWest etc? How about +WCOM + Sprint.
I guess some people do think that these companies will just stand there helplessly on the sidelines clapping their hands, " bravo AT&T ", Right?
Yeah right.
I have had an interest over the years in the phone companies through my investments in CSCO and NN for the Asynchronous Transfer Mode ( ATM ) switches that ate the beckbone of the internet and have witnessed
in Congress and in the local legislatures one of the fiercest battles ever waged by the baby bells against Ma bell. And until Armstrong came on they were winning. They didn't have to spend a penny except as a political contribution. Now with the UMG deal they will roll up their sleeves and put their money were their mouth is.Some body quickly look up th eeps of Ameritch: fantastic, over the last 5 years. So one hand you have AT&T. On the other you have some real hardened and hungry bells, now united in one single front against mamma. 6 bells +WCOM +++ . Certainly AOL will be in their camp ( unless AOL cuts a deal with AT&T which is also possible ).
Stock may be down this week, but when it decides to move, off we go,

TA
