For these internuts - I would rather pay 50% on a 25K gain than hold for 1 year and pay 20% on who knows what - especially having to stomach these kind of gyrations.

No, not in an IRA. I have a lot of real estate, so there is depreciation to off set short term capital gains.

You made out well with your calls. Should be able to buy them back cheap if that's what you had in mind. Often if a stock looks over bought, I will sell in the money calls about 3 months out and then if there is a back down, I will re buy them. Makes for good down side protection.
