"My question is what will this effect will this have on storage and storage stocks? I believe in this picture demand will be enormous for storage in this type of world. Would love to hear others comments on anything I have had to say."

I agree these broadband improvements will have enormous impacts on storage but the question is "when?". As Z pointed out, 2 to 4 years from now we may be looking at pictures of Stitch smoking is cigar but is that something we want to store? It probably depends on the Asian ladies.<g>

Cable modems are going through tremendous growth and Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) are really beginning to move. The fiber backbone will make huge advances this year also. However, will this sell more storage? Some say the availability of more bandwidth will open new technologies we haven't considered yet but we can't expect that to have much impact soon.

I compare installing a larger DD to building a larger garage. Getting my cable modem was like getting a pickup truck. With the combination I can bring home and save more things and larger things. With the pickup alone I would just wish I had a larger garage. When the small garage is nearly full, I would get more serious about a larger garage. I would put off the larger garage as long as possible.

I think the impact of more bandwidth will begin late this year but will be very gradual at first. It will take time for larger file type things to be produced in quantity. It may take a few years for the mainstream to want to store larger things.

I am still going to remain long on DD stocks because I think the hype of the future could happen any time and drive the stock prices up. It will be too late to buy these stocks when it appears every hard drive sold to date is too small.
