Re: AT&T / MediaOne / Comcast / Microsoft

"Microsoft reportedly is close to making a $5 billion investment in AT&T and securing an AT&T commitment to use its software in advanced TV set-top boxes."

Thread,
What an ongoing saga. The cable plant as a last mile solution gets more interesting everyday. T would probably very much like MSFT's cash (I would assume it's cash) investment to help with their spending plans.

And to add icing to the cake, part of the deal Armstrong struck, in it's buyout of MediaOne, was to promise Comcast a future cable-telephony deal! As if Comcast needed any kind of, "promise," from AT&T to deliver local telephone service to Comcast customers. I'm sure AT&T is dying to get to Comcast's customers as much as AT&T wants to wrap up the deal to get to Time Warners customers.

I'm surprised Armstrong didn't find a way to bring AOL to the party.
