Qualcomm Plans to Reduce Operations in India, Paper Says

New Delhi, May 5 (Bloomberg) -- Qualcomm Inc., a maker of cellular equipment, plans to reduce its operations in India following the sale of its terrestrial wireless infrastructure business to Swedish telecommunications company Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson, the Business Line daily reported, citing an unidentified official of the company. Qualcomm shut its software center in the southern city of Chennai. The company plans to retain only employees in its subscriber handset business, the paper said.

In March, Sweden's Ericsson agreed to purchase San Diego- based Qualcomm's terrestrial wireless unit as part of a broader agreement to share cellular-equipment technology and settle a patent dispute.
