For the last 5 nights I have been trying to get on the "last mile technologies" by installing the ADSL (USWEST) and so far it is still not working. I am sure part of the problem is this self-installer (why would I want to pay $110 for something I could do....). However, the tech supports sure were of all shades - some asked me to do things repeatedly without improvement, some directed me to other "experts" and ..... After a 3rd party intervention, it was decided the problem was not at my end but was because uswest.net forgot to set up the PPP at their end. With assurance from uswest.net, I rebooted my computer and the Cisco 675 modem. Still nothing !! This time, I was told the modem has gone kaput. So, here I am twiddling my fingers and waiting for the "last mile technologies".....

Am I the only eager one with misfortune ?? Or, is this why cable modem has more subscribers than ADSL ?
