Fagan says don't ignore what Bid.Com represents

Brian Fagan, writing in the April 26 edition of the Fagan Report, says whether or not you think Bid.Com International is overvalued at $1.5-billion ($30 a share), investors cannot afford to ignore Internet stocks. There are risks, however. Mr. Fagan says seven such stocks that he follows -- Bid.Com, Dejour Mines, American Gem, Dion Entertainment, Network Gaming, Oro Nevada, and LatinGold -- were up an average of 815 per cent during a two-week period ending April 9. In the following two-week period, each stock gave up around half of its value from its previous two-week high. The Washington State-based letter writer says investors should take this kind of market action seriously. "I think we are at the very early stage of a sustainable rally in junior tech (and) Internet stocks," he writes. Bid.Com was trading in October 1998 at under $1. That month it struck a deal with Rogers Communications and later Yorkton did a financing for $10.3-million. In March, the Globe and Mail referred to the company as "Canada's Ebay" and on April 8 it hit an intraday high of $32.35. For the nine months ending Sept. 30, 1998, revenues were $13.7-million, up from year-earlier revenues of $1.2-million. The company lost $12.9-million during the period, however.
