Mostly true, except when you spend your money on graphics and hand-held controllers (digitizing tablets, fancy "joy-sticks",...) which is where most of my computer budget goes to.

But the coming changes in September may be different. I can't see AGP 4x being replaced quickly. Nor do I think the follow ups to K7 and Camino be radically better. As well, by January we should know if Rambus lives or dies, which can make a big difference to your RAM budget. So there are changes around that affect everything from your CPU and motherboard architecture to your RAM and possibly IO bus (and IO controlers). This is different than your typical faster CPU upgrade.

So I think my decision is to buy a Celery now and make up my mind about my real upgrade in Jan 2000.
