Nicholas, I don't think Nullsoft is more than an embryonic company that dominates a niche the bigger players weren't willing to enter in a litigious environment, whose usership has meanwhile exploded. Shoutcast's appeal is to the micro-market, which, as the internet is structured, is as large in terms of traffic, as the mass market. The problem for Real was not the Nullsoft company or Shoutcast itself, but the ability for a company like Microsoft to acquire or manipulate it, and migrate its base of 10 million users to more scalable and lucrative alternatives.
