Ian ... same problem here in southern N.H., these White Mountain cable trucks are like cockroaches all over the freakin place.
They are wiring my entire town with fibre optic cable and I'm not in a major metro area ! What's that MediaOne TV ad ... this is broadband, this is the way !

They're installing digital cable TV. Don't be dreaming about 2 way HFC, or better yet, go up and ask them if they are installing HFC. They'll say, "oh yes, it will all be in by August", but they don't even know what they're doing. They think you mean will you be getting digital cable tv. "Oh yes, it will all be in by November".
