Many of us do both; hang on to core holdings through thick and thin, and trade some as well.

<1) I can't understand why "buy and hold" types even hang out on these threads--seems
contradictory. I suspect they've got their fingers twitching right along with the traders, or
they'd be reading Vanity Fair instead of SI. >

I did some trading in 1998 and paid like the dickens for in on 4/15/99. Am working to keep my trading to a minimum now. Still find these threads *VERY* useful as I tweak my portfolio, add promising stocks, occasionally daytrade, etc.

< 2) I'm a very novice trader, and I've made some nice profits going in and out of CMGI
over the past 2 months. I never touched it until it hit 183, and I've bought as high as
244. Today I bought at 233 and expect to make 10 to 20 points tomorrow. On the
other hand, if I lose 40 points tomorrow, I'll still be way ahead of the game. >

Sounds like a lot of work! Been there, done that. Too each one's own. Good trading. Rob

you don't gloat when the price tanks and rub people's faces in their misery. as a buyer and holder, i watch these boards to learn more about the company, to try to find other buying opportunities, and to do something besides watching barney videos. unfortunately, many times barney is a more entertaining alternative. and while i'm on the subject, i'll also add: I'M NOT ASHAMED TO WATCH BARNEY. i just can't do it for hours and hours. good luck making money however you choose to do it.:o)

Partly, it's a feeling that we are on to something big and want to share our impressions and information. It's no skin off YOUR nose, right?

OT---djo looks like we're in similar circumstances in life--love gardening, kids, and am still trying to find a new career. this may be it. i have a love affair with cmgi, but not enough $ to buy more and hold. picked up at 220 today--was so pleased but had to use as a day trade. it killed me. i am also long and look forward to the month of may. swig
