BMC annual meeting 5/12/99

I went to the BMC Annual Meeting yesterday. The tenor of the meeting was not cheerful, more grim in my estimation. Proceedings were tightly controlled by the prez, and any other employees who was required to speak up made only short remarks. The whole thing was over in 45 minutes.

I do get the impression that management is working furiously to get expenses and production back under control.

I also get the impression that BMC is putting a lot of push behind the Vision division. I wouldn't be surprised to see the tiny St. Paul division slip into oblivion. And, ten years hence, I wouldn't be surprised to see all of us staring at flat-panel displays and tv's, few cathode-ray tubes being made, and BMC's Mask division closed. In that case, BMC would be an eyewear company, wouldn't it?

These are just my observations and musings as a BMC stockholder, nothing more.
