You need a second or third opinion. There was quite the article in Reader's Digest some years ago about uneven diagnostic practices among dentists.

A neat idea might be to check out a dental school in the area. The tend to be cheap and honest if you don't mind some kid poking around in your mouth.

If you want, maybe my dad will talk to you? He is retired. But he is in Baton Rouge. He is honest, though. I have had some experience with dishonest dentists, not personally but people have consulted me. I haven't taken a dental malpractice case, though, just not enough money in the ones I have seen, more common garden fraud than actual malpractice (negligence).

My thought would be to ask someone local, whom you trust, who he/she uses? Or maybe consult with say, Boulevard Shagnasty's dentist? Don't you guys live sorta in the same part of the world?

But if you have periapical disease (gum) disease, that has nothing to do with the soundness of your teeth, at least not now. If you neglect perio, it will eventually destroy sound teeth.
