Vol, re. ProSearch, I think "Relative performance 1 year weighted 100%" refers to a relative criterion. Many criteria are absolute, like price/book > 3, or whatever. But if you want to pick the most extreme values of a parameter like RS for all the stocks that survived the absolute criteria, then you want a relative criterion. That's how you can generate a list of the N lowest RS stocks that meet the other criteria. If you have more than one relative criteria, you can weight them.

That's my understanding from using the less-powerful online version of ProSearch. Mort can correct me if I'm wrong.

Some screening tools, like StockQuest from MarketGuide, have no relative criteria. Just absolute criteria. Which makes them less useful.
