TRI-VISION'S UNIQUE V-GIS™ V-CHIP PROVIDES PEACE OF MIND
FOR LEGISLATORS AND PARENTS

Patented V-gis™ v-chip technology enables legislators and regulators to modify TV ratings systems without concern of v-chip obsolescence in new TVs.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 5, 1999 - TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA - Tri-Vision International Ltd./Ltée today reported that its V-gis™ v-chip technology is the only v-chip technology, available to TV manufacturers, that is able to automatically reconfigure in the field. This unique feature will provide parents and legislators with the peace of mind that any planned changes to the U.S. TV ratings systems would not render new TVs obsolete.

The globally acclaimed V-gis™ v-chip technology provides parents with an easy to use means of controlling the quality and content of television programming entering the home by blocking or selecting television programs based on content. This means that television shows can be selected based on prescribed ratings as well as varying levels of violence, sexual content, language and dialogue.

On March 12, 1998, the Federal Communications Commission approved the TV Parental Guidelines, the television program ratings system designed specifically for the v-chip, and adopted the technical requirements for v-chip blocking. In their ruling, the FCC strongly recommended that TV manufacturers provide for alternative ratings
systems. Specifically, the FCC stated, "Although we are not mandating that TV receiver manufacturers provide for alternative rating systems, we encourage manufacturers to design TV receivers to provide for additional rating systems to the extent practical. We believe that manufacturers will be driven by the marketplace to meet any
consumer demands to accommodate additional rating systems."

A three-year moratorium on changes to the U.S. ratings systems expires as early as July 2000. V-gis™ Set-top Box Offered to Cable Companies by Exclusive Distributor, Telewire Supply

With heightened public awareness of the urgent need to get a tool such as the v-chip in the hands of parents, Telewire Supply is increasing its efforts to make Tri-Vision’s V-gis™ v-chip set-top product line available to cable operators throughout the United States.

Telewire Supply, ANTEC's nationwide full-line supplier of broadband HFC products, is the largest in the U.S. offering customers a wide selection of brands from a broad range of manufacturers (NASDAQ:ANTC). Communications, Comcast and Media One.

Tri-Vision International Ltd./Ltée is a public company founded in 1986 and trades on Canada’s Toronto Stock
Exchange under the symbol TVL.
