06-May-99 11:51:00 Novell is trading $3/8 higher to $23 13/16 on light
institutional volume. Just 16% of today's 1.9 million share volume is
the result of block trades. While institutional brokers appear active
in the pre-trade market, a further review of the data revealed that
there are one or two firm's behind the majority of super messages.
This suggests that the brokers firms are actually trading on behalf
of their own house accounts looking to make money on the spreads,
rather than trading on behalf of institutional clients. Thus, it is
day traders, both professional and retail, who are moving the stock
today, not institutional investors.
