SHfn's Momentum Picks for Tomorrow, May 6, 1999 Miami, FL, May 5 /SHfn/ -- The following is a briefing of momentum plays chosen by StockHouse Newsdesk chosen by technical indicators. Please see the disclaimer at the bottom of this page. Silknet Software [SILK] debuted shakily Tuesday before recovering and closing to ear pounding applause and a 134% premium on the day. SILK sold 3 million shares at $15 each. The stock opened at 20-1/8 and slipped to 15-5/8 before thundering into the homestretch for a 35-1/8 close. 9.1 million shares traded Tuesday, and momentum is expected to roll on through to Wednesday. Silknet makes customer service software that promote e-business for companies such as Microsoft, 3Com and Compaq and CMGI owns a significant share. At Home [ATHM] carved a steeply inclined path Tuesday, rising 14%. Speculation that Comcast would tender its stake in At Home as payment for cable assets from AT&T renewed trading interest. ATHM traded 6.3 million shares which represents a substantial blip to levels unseen since mid April. Knight/Trimark Group [NITE] shares took the morning to decide, but once afternoon hit, NITE rode the market turnaround straight up. NITE gained 16-1/2, or 12.5% to close at 148-1/2. Heavy buying took the shares to a very strong finish Tuesday. America Online [AOL] pulled off a strong turn around in the last half hour and posted a 2% gain on the day. The momentum looks like it should carry through Wednesday morning, as indicated by a bullish hammer on the daily chart. Dell [DELL] also dons a strong bullish hammer indication, and this volatile trader could due for a nice upswing. Dell gained ½ point Tuesday, closing at 41-5/16. Infoseek Corp. [SEEK] gained 10-3/16, or 23%, to 55 1/8. The Internet search directory benefited from an upgrade by Michael P. Wallace at Warburg Dillon Read Inc. to a buy from a hold. SEEK looks poised to ride what should be an Internet wave higher Wednesday. Qualcomm [QCOM] screamed higher near day's end Tuesday, gaining 14-3/4, or 7% to end at 224-5/8. QCOM broke a new one year high for the second time in two days on Tuesday. MCI WorldCom Inc. [WCOM] walked away from talks to acquire the unprofitable cellular company Nextel when price became an irreconcilable issue. WCOM were alleviated from downward pressure surrounding the deal, and shares rose 8% or 6-11/16 after the news broke. Momentum surged at 1:30 pm EDT and snowballed into very heavy activity near closing bell. WCOM logged an 18 million shares plus trading day, with 2.7 million shares trading in the last half hour; 1.2 million in the closing 10 minutes. Priceline.com Inc. [PCLN] added 17-3/16, or 13 percent, to close at 151-3/16. PCLN shares tested the support at $135 and found its legs at 3:00 pm EDT running hard to a strong finish. The Internet bidding site reported Q1 revenue of $49.4 million, beating the analyst expectation of $43 million. Circuit City Stores Inc. [CC] are coming off of the lofty 78-3/4 high reached on March 22nd. Shares lost 4-5/8 or 6.7% to close at 64-1/2 on Tuesday. Technical indicators show the shares will ride lower yet. Hint, this is not likely to be a long play Wednesday. Newcourt Credit Group [NCT] is on the sharp decline, losing nearly 16% on Tuesday. The technical indicators all post serious red flags on shares of NCT. It was a mass exodus out of NCT today, and this could represent an opportunity to play the downside Wednesday.
