Joseph, Great post! Do it for yourself. If others show appreciation, it's an unexpected and gratifying experience. BTW: I really like your History of Silicon Investor thread and have referenced it many times. When I was a full-time investor, participating in discussion forums was very rewarding... especially if I could find someone to argue with. Depending on how heated an argument became, I'd sometimes log off and start ranting and raving... sometimes throw an old shoe against the wall : ) ... then later learn that I wasn't right about everything... in fact, I was sometimes very wrong. James Cramer is like this, but he does it publicly instead of privately. I think more than anything, knowing the truth is the most important advantage a stock investor can have... and sometimes you will be the only person in the world that knows the truth (and it can be very lonely). Once you are armed with the truth, then you have to make estimates as to how long it's going to take for everyone else to learn the truth. It's an extreme challenge to know reality from fantasy. Much of what people in the Media report is not true. Reporters mess up the facts more often than not and/or just report the propaganda that the companies they are reporting about want them to report... Wall Street analysts are guilty of this too. Participating in SI and communicating with SI members is a way to make sense of information chaos (and all the people in the world trying to fool you for their own self interests). And, SI is a great way to keep a finger on the psychology of the market. Making lists and posting what you know to be true is valuable, even if nobody else seems to care. In all likelihood, there are lots of people that really do care, but for many reasons, it is difficult for people to express their appreciation to others. It is also easy to take peoples' hard work for granted... So, I'm back to your conclusion... do it because you want to.
