I wish I could understand exactly what it is he is saying but I think he means to be fairly cryptic

not to worry, the 'experts' will analyze every nuance and flood the news venues with their 'take' on it

Dow down, but off lows as stocks digest Greenspan

NEW YORK, May 6 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks remained lower late Thursday morning as interest rate concerns prevailed.

The market had spent much of the morning transfixed by an Alan Greenspan speech on global economic crises.

Prices were moving off their lows as many investors shrugged off the Fed chairman's speech as containing little new information.

''My net-net assessment of this is that it's a non-event,'' said Scott Jones, director of equity trading at Jefferies & Co. ''I don't think he's said anything new. The market was on its way down anyway. It just needs a breather.''

At 1030 EDT/1430 GMT, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 55 points at 10,899.

''The market had been weak all morning in anticipation of (Greenspan) talking,'' said Robert Stovall, president of Stovall/Twenty-First Advisers. ''I don't think he's said anything new. He's just recanting what we all know. He's saying what his job requires him to say,'' Stovall added.

Analysts agreed that the market was moving lower as the long bond fell 25/32 with its yield rising to 5.77 percent.

''The market is not happy because the bond is not backing up,'' said Bryan Piskorowski, market analyst at Prudential Securities.

With the Greenspan speech out of the way, all eyes will watch the April non-farm payrolls figures, due out Friday morning at 0830 EDT/1230 GMT.
