Mark - yes, this is the same company - their in Saskatchewan. Did you guys catch this: >IMAGE launched its digital MDS system in March 1997 with 56 channels. >From its Regional Operating Center in Yorkton, IMAGE now broadcasts >more than 80 services using TRANsend headend components, Nagra >conditional access system, Thomcast transmitters, and Sagem set-top >boxes. The services are broadcast across the province of Saskatchewan >on a network of 20 towers in 16 QAM modulation, using in-band >trunking and drop and insert technology to provide local services to >its customers. >Upon completion of the upgrade, IMAGE will immediately proceed with >an expansion of services and service areas. The flexibility of the >upgraded network will allow for rapid implementation of >ancillary services (interactive, data, etc.) and the migration to 32 >or 64 QAM modulation to increase capacity; a further eight towers >will be commissioned in third quarter 1999. So, they currently have 20 towers, and it looks like they have plans to build 8 more along with other upgrades. This means more TRANsend headends, no? I also like the fact that HLIT's products are interoperable with both HFC and MMDS networks. With the T/MediaOne deal, there's a lot of talk about T achieving near monopoly status. As a TCI customer, I know I've seen nothing but rising rates over the past couple of years, and T's move scares the hell out of me as a consumer. I'm hoping more upstarts like this IMAGE, or RCN, or WCII jump into the fray to offer competing services, and I'm glad HLIT has the products to help them all upgrade. Does anyone know anything else about this IMAGE Communications? I couldn't find a webpage.
