Drug Emporium's E-Commerce Growth to Be Driven by Oracle's Leading Electronic
Business Applications and Internet Platform

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Drug Emporium, Inc.
(Nasdaq: DEMP), a leading deep discount drug store retailer, and Oracle
Corporation (Nasdaq: ORCL) today announced that Drug Emporium has selected
Oracle's e-business applications to expand Drug Emporium's Internet business.
This will enable Drug Emporium to completely overhaul its existing on-line
drug store to provide its customers with a superior shopping experience.
After running Drug Emporium's initial Web site on a competing platform,
the company decided it needed to search for a vendor that could provide it
with the reliability and flexibility required to meet the future needs of its
growing on-line store. David L. Kriegel, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
of Drug Emporium said, "We want to provide the best experience possible for
our customers, and that becomes easier when we can track customer data to
provide a personalized shopping experience. We believe that with Oracle's
assistance we could produce the type of system we envisioned -- a system that
will leverage customer data to improve our sales and customer service."
In order to meet the demanding needs of the competitive e-commerce market,
Drug Emporium required a solution that could be both implemented quickly and
be flexible enough to support the company's unique vision for drug store
e-commerce. Oracle Internet Commerce Server which enables the creation,
management, and personalization of Web-based stores, will serve as the
backbone of Drug Emporium's upgraded on-line store.
Mr. Kriegel continued, "Oracle Internet Commerce Server was selected over
competitive solutions because of its open, scalable and flexible architecture.
Integrated with Oracle Payment Server, Drug Emporium's site will route and
process multiple, simultaneous electronic payments and processing systems
creating a complete browse-to-buy experience."
Drug Emporium's Oracle Internet Commerce Server storefront is slated to be
integrated with the Oracle Applications suite of enterprise business
applications, including Oracle Order Entry and Oracle Inventory. Integration
between Oracle e-business and ERP applications will enable up-to-the-minute
information on inventory and pricing. Integration will also allow Drug
Emporium to leverage customer information, such as buying patterns, to offer
customers a personalized experience and targeted product promotions.
Mr. Kriegel concluded, "The Internet has changed the way business
operates, and it is essential for companies to quickly grasp the possibilities
of the Internet in order to stay competitive. Oracle's Internet platform and
applications are providing us with the foundation necessary to not only
compete, but excel in this rapidly advancing market."
"Drug Emporium's move to the Internet demonstrates its leadership by
harnessing technology to extend their business," said Mark Jarvis, senior vice
president, Oracle Corp. "The biggest and best Web sites are powered by Oracle
for e-business."
