"They still have to get something for the last mile..." How about "something" that owns the "last mile" getting them? That is, how about AT&T with their aggressive cable strategy, and now their venture with Microsoft, linking with the main aterial, Qwest, to provide global internet connectivity as one giant provider?

Just wild speculation on my part, but if I were looking at the future, these companies certainly seem to have the "goods".
