Ricardo, don't be so self- conscious, it was good information to share...In the context of a St. John's question period, it is possible to get a debate going, at least if the crowd has thinned so that you can stay on topic instead of deferring, but Adler was a stickler for a short round of questions, so we had a brief exchange each time. The main one that I recall was on his interpretation of the Nicomachean ethics, which I thought scanted the importance of contemplation and friendship in the scheme of things, and which I thought sounded more Epicurean than Aristotelian, since it revolved around justifying the virtuous life on the basis that the virtues were inseparable, and the we needed to be virtuous for a life of material satisfaction. We talked briefly after the session, as well. He was nicer than usual about being contradicted, which he hated, I have to say, because I knew something...
