Amen! Pray for the innocents' souls too.

<<I would not like to brand anyone in such a prayer, but if there are such, forgive them, Lord...>>

Neocon, I am really struggling with this. There are evil people committing evil acts in the world. Like the Shooters at Columbine High here in Colorado.

Forgiveness is a serious issue with me and I honestly don't get the Christian tendency to forgive or ask God to forgive everyone. Forgiveness is based on three things 1) The bad behavior is recognized as bad by the perp, 2) He expresses remorse over the act, 3) He offers evidence that the he has taken personal responsibility to do better.

Well, in our case, we can be deceived. We usually do forgive people under these circumstances and occasionally get duped. Worth the risk I say. But why are we jumping to ask God forgive unknown persons for heinous acts committed without any clue about their intentions.

God's forgiveness is of course the most merciful. If I can successfully petition God to forgive someone who otherwise doesn't meet the above criteria, isn't the premise that God isn't all powerful. Most of the stuff I have read indicates that repentance is essentially linked to God's forgiveness and generally encompasses the above three points. My main limitation is simply knowing whether or not the repentance is sincere and the extent of Gods Mercy.

People out here in Colorado have been placing letters on the monuments created for the shooters proclaiming their forgiveness. To me, the guys are dead. Their opportunity to do any thing which impacts the judgement of their souls is passed. We may or may not have been able to influence them prior to death but now we should respect the fact that they are dead and simply leave it in the hands of God.
