Well, I happen to know a few former Netscape engineers.
From what I gather from them, many took the merger bonus
and then left after the deal was completed.

I tend to think AOL bought NSCP to secure themselves as lead portal. I don't see why they'd need the browser as MSFT is certain to expand its lead while Netscape decreases its share.
