The acquisition of Universal positions Americlean to become the leading manufacturer and distributor of engineered hydrocarbon solvents and cleaning agents in North America.

I'm sure they'll be bigger than Exon, maker of DF2000 pretty soon.

Americlean's proprietary EnviroClean line of hydrocarbon cleaning agents ... will increase by 15-20% annually, and will be utilized by over 4000 dry-cleaners in North America by the end of the year 2000.

Let's see. At 20% a year, and two years, that means 2800 Drycleaners must currently use "Enviroclean" hydrocarbons. Considering that their sales were only $1.3mm for last year, this does not seem likely. I believe that Enviroclean is a reseller of of a solvent produced by Chemica Sud of Italy, though I am having trouble recalling the name it goes by. I'm sure that the $1.3mm in sales includes the sales of Realstar drycleaning machines as well as plant design revenue. Last time I talked to Tom Abbett they had about 25 customers in the US, though I'm sure they've added some more in the last year. Their solvent does have a high flash point at about 180 degrees.

The main solvent in use by the drycleaning industry is perc. The second most common, and fastest growing solvent is DF2000 by Exon. Behind that I think is Skelly sur-dri, also known as Stoddard 140, which has an odor problem. Another, Quick-dri or Stoddard is in wide use, though usage is declining slowly due to explosion risks. The Italian solvent does have the advantage of a high flash point, and high mileage, but it doesn't have much market penetration so far as I can tell, and maintains a very, very low profile.

New in use this year, and showing great promise is liquified Carbon Dioxide, with competing systems produced by Micell Technologies, and Global Technologies (a division of Hughes Aircraft). Both companies have web sites if you search for them. If you need links, I can locate them for you.

A dark horse in the campaign for replacing perc is Rynex, a terpine based solvent that can supposedly be used in existing drycleaning machines. By far and away the two favorites at this point appear to be DF2000 from Exon, and the two liquified CO2 systems.

I'd make sure I do VERY thorough due diligence before believing any press releases issued by this company. I do not mean to imply that Enviroclean is fictitious, or that they do not have a solvent with merit, merely that in my opinion their forward looking statements are much more optimistic about their prospects than I am. I have no opinion whatsoever on the value of AMCX as an investment.

Good luck,

Carl
