Yaacov, Opus Dei and the Jesuits are two different things, founded at different times. The Jesuits are primarily a religious order of priests dedicated to conversion and defense of the faith. Opus Dei is predominantly a lay organization dedicated to helping modern Catholics maintain strong spirituality. Many professionals belong, and therefore it is very influential among the educated elite in the countries that you mention. However, if it were as powerful as you say, the Socialists would never win an election, which they, of course, do quite regularly. There have been various charges of collaboration, some of which have been true, some false, but they were never sufficient to discredit the organization in its entirety...
