FDR was not a great leader. Here's a little anecdote about how the country was, is, and always will be - divided on the legacy of FDR.

We were driving to a family reunion and were going through Longview, WA. My mom noticed an old WPA building and my dad said, "We Piddle Around." My mom said, "oh, they did some good things." And so the debate goes.

It doesn't help FDR's case in my mind given the fact that he had so many communists in high level posts.

One of my friends says of Roosevelt: "The only difference between FDR and Hitler was no soap shortage in the U.S."

FWIW
