Hey, don't bad-mouth my favorite mpc! <g> Seriously, with the Celeron available, I don't see why anyone would pay extra to put a P3 on their desktop. Alex. Brown's analyst claimed the P3-500's were still up at $500, though 450's were $315 -- another market disconnect? -mb

<The most notable victim of this campaign is PIII, which is now selling for less than $300.>

Jumping to conclusions again, Scumbria? Maybe you ought to stick to box scores, which you neglected to post today. ;-)

Approximate prices from www.pricewatch.com:

Pentium III 500 MHz: $580
Pentium III 450 MHz: $295
Pentium II 450 MHz: $370

It's weird that the Pentium II 450 MHz should sell for more than the Pentium III 450 MHz. However, if the Celeron is killing off the Pentium III, can you explain why the Celeron isn't killing off the Pentium II?

>Intel's management instead chose to try to kill off the competition with Celeron.<

Appears to have worked. Ask National Semi. When Celeron first came out, all you Intel bashers made fun of it. Now that it has flattened one of Intels remaining two competitors, you are saying Intel shot itself in the foot??! Get real. No one calls it Celery anymore for a lot of very good reasons.
