Penni - go back to the original article, the starting-point for this discussion. And take a look at the following quotations (one from Norman Lear, the other from a certain Finestra, "the co-author of a movie script entitled 'Harv the Barbarian'" !?). I presume that they are not referring to themselves alone, and that the "we" refers to Americans in general:

The idea and delight we once took in celebrating family, community, seems to be vaporizing before us. You now have all these shows about lone people coming together. It seems to me this is part of something profound. [Wow! jbe] It's a disease of our time.[Yow! jbe] There's a television in every room and the family has become splintered.

Reality check time, Norm. Just how many families can afford to have a television in every room?

It's just such a different world than the one we grew up in.

Speak for yourself, Finestra. Don't drag us into your world.
