Do you normally print and pubish every unsubstantiated rumour that crosses your ear? It is one thing to say that you heard some news that may turn out to be true, it is a totally different matter to do damage to a persons or group of persons reputation. I would think that you are intelligent enough to distinguish the difference. It is exceptionally dispicable to publish something where the people concerned are unable to respond. One does not have to prove themselves innocent of any and all hearsay rumours that you may dream up. If you want to make allegations, the onus is upon you to back them up. I believe that you have already indicated that you have absolutely no basis for publishing your defamitory libel so I believe that you would be obligated to make a public apology at the very least. As a self proclaimed sceptic, you should be the last person to spread unsubstantiated and probably unverifiable malicious rumours. I'm sure that if you have any credibility as a person you would agree. If you post for the sole purpose of spreading false rumours, I would expect a long drawn out excuse and denial song.
