Heavy coverage of the merger on Lehrer Show on PBS...
Ken Auletta from New Yorker Magazine being interviewed
quotes from the show:
Regarding Mr. Armstrong...
"very bold move
betting the farm
acting like an entrepenuer"
on MSFT part of the equation:
"trying to get a seat at the cable table
position in the cable box is what they want...O/S
Spurned by cable industry
this will increase their entry and foothold."
What is the consumer stake?
"ambivilance, but they want the whole concept of ONE SERVICE PROVIDER~!
Bundled service.
But all worry about the competition of the internet price and jacking up the prices of the services?"
Where does it leave AOL?
They want you to pay them for the internet access, but they have to beware of ATT doing the same thing.
AOL is going to the local bells to do the same thing.
LOVE the word GATEKEEPER he used...
Armstrong ain't doing what a Bell executive/telephone company should do...THANK GOD!

Armstrong is to AT&T as Lucas is to Star Wars.

Both incomprehensible geniouses in their own right.

Both with vision and execution.

AT&T...I would never have touched them in the past, because, well, they are AT&T...you know... expensive long distance service. Too big , too stodgy..etc..

But NOW...they are competitive, they are looking forward to the next 3 years..and I am much happier that Armstrong is on top of all of this than say someone like Bill Gates.

However, Billy isn't a fool, Bill Gates is investing HUGE into AT&T.

AT&T is the leader...and will be the leader...everyone else has to play catch up. And AT&T has the money, access, and breadth to get the execution done.

AOL is too busy whining...the bells are playing stupid and slow..also whining without vision.

I want a performer..not a whiner as my CEO.

Amstrong sounded great on CNBC.... he believes that they need to NOW focus away from deal making and focus on execution.

Great market share... let's EXECUTE this baby.
