ANd of course, we all can't have exact memory replicas but we both enjoyed similar experiences-you in your boy way, me in my girl way and yes I read all the guy books because there were lots more of them. My husband is seven years younger than I- and I just asked him if he read biographies as a boy and he said- "Oh Yeah!!! Those little orange books!! Jim Bowie, Zeb Pike, there were tons of them!" And he got all excited-- said they helped form his character. I am all inspired now--- having gone to the library today-- to go read. ANd all you fellow abnormals- no TVs are on at this house!

I saw that!! And did Joan REALLY not read the orange biographies? What a vapid childhood she must have had. <bg> I can remember all the children's books I read aloud to my kid brother (6 years younger). Favorites of his and mine: Winnie the Pooh, Babar, the Oz books, etc. (This was before he went through his Wild West period, of course.) As for the books I read for myself...Hard to remember, since I began reading "grown-up" books quite early. Let's see...There was Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, The Secret Garden, Little Women -- and Little Men, as well. What else? MacDonald's The Princess and the Goblin, Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, Black Beauty..... All girl's books, I'm afraid. <g>
