E, I said I never owned a TV until 1966. I have had one ever since. I also said I watch
TV rarely. But I do watch it occasionally (although no sitcoms). And I still think there
are a lot of people in that category.

Please don't make that the criteria for being a normal American. After all, I didn't buy my first TV until 1973, and other than football and curling, I watch less than three hours a month of broadcast TV. We don't even HAVE cable, so I don't even have the option of CNN, CNBC, etc. I haven't watched a news broadcast in at least a year. The kids watch a maximum of two shows each week -- they like Sabrina and Tool Time, but only when they're not reruns, and if I'm not on the computer and not reading something good, which is rarely, I'll watch with them. My wife likes watching skating and gymnastics, and we do watch some of the Olypics. Otherwise we use the TV for watching about one movie VCR every two weeks or so. (Our TV shorted out in November and turned out not be fixable and we didn't even bother getting a new one until last month.)

So if your viewing habits make you abnormal, what does that make me?

But I AM a normal American. I am, I AM.
