A more appropriate apology would be; "I have absolutely no personal knowledge of any wrongdoing by any member of the Winspear management team and most humbly beg their pardon for my most inappropriate behavior in trying to fill my short or buy cheap stock." What Lorne offered was much more along the lines of a stay of proceedings. He still desires to allude to something without offering anything to back it up. I would equate it to standing up in church and apologizing to the minister for telling the barber that the minister raped his sister when he did not see it happen himself--without adding that he really had no reason to believe that such an event ever took place. What is clear is that the original unfounded allegation lingers and any reasonable person would understand that. That is why it is a criminal offense to defame and slander and the only defense is for the slanderer to prove that his assertions are true.
