Puerto Vallarta - yes, I remember you left just after I got back to BC.
My sister's father-in-law has a place there, but I've never been, spent a fair bit of time in Mazatlán, Baja Sur, and the Oaxaca coast, though. Similar terrain and climate. I'm not a fan of cities, especially the tourist type of city like PV or Cancún or Cabos, prefer the villages, farms even better. Along the Pacific coast you can find some great places, we like Puerto Angel, we spent our honeymoon there. Travelling is great, eh - you go along noticing all the differences and then you're kind of surprised when you find some things exactly the same. And people are just folks wherever you go, all the various personality types exist everywhere. My idea of a perfect life is five months a year each in BC and Chiapas, and two months roaming around elsewhere, and we're working toward that. I hope you learned some español?
