I once called the SEC regarding a concern I had with a state
offical maybe owning a stock & pushing vendor work their way ignoring
lawful bid procedures ( for his own potential gain ). The investigator, a Mrs Jones, asked me how I was able to get directly
thru to her through the automated phone messaging system intended to
leave one on "hold" unless one could enter the name of the party they
were asking for. I responded that I figured there would be a "Jones"
working in the building somewhere. She laughed & we had an interesting 15-20 minute conversation about "benefical" ownership of
stock or large ownership vis-a-vis my concerns. She put NO pressure
on me at all for specifics - never asked my last name, the company
name, the name of the state official I suspected or any details. She
simply gave me her HOME phone & told me to call back if I decided to
pursue the matter. I never did call her back, but have retained her
name somewhere. I was not at all intimidated & considered her to be
quite helpful, professional & interested in following thru if I chose
to proceed. Just relaying my own experience & I'm quite jaded against
gov't agencies generally..................................V
