>>The features you mention are all in the Matrox software as well (except hot-key switching) and I get the impression pretty standard on the Big Four (Appian, STB, Matrox, Colorgraphics).<<

mowa,

Thanks for all that info. I didn't realize the other cards came with similar desktop control in their software -- the sales rep at the reseller made it sound like they (Matrox, STB, etc.) were still in the stone ages in that respect -- and looking at their web-sites you wouldn't know any different: Appian is the only one that takes the trouble to describe what kind of desktop control features you will have. And that's where my decision STARTS, because I'm not likely to even notice the differences in image quality.

Prices quoted were

4MB/channel: $789
8MB/channel: $989
TV Tuner (external): $189

I wasn't too confident about the salesman's testimony because he contradicted some things I had heard on the boards -- for instance he said there was no way I would be able to run 4 monitors from individual cards.

I'm glad to hear the others have similar software features -- it didn't seem like such a difficult thing to accomplish, so it makes sense. That definitely changes things.
