... a less than euphoric reality check/ but a related BUY idea ! Here are some comments on the 2nd half 1999 expectations from GGY an International Seismic co. IE: profit taking, rotation into the E&P's (which will post huge year over year increases in Q2-3), judging the probability of retracement and getting a ''timeframe'' handle on the eventual Oilpatch recovery. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------biz.yahoo.com << With respect to the second half of 1999, there are no real indications at the moment of a genuine upturn in business, even though current oil and gas prices constitute encouraging signals which should be positively reflected in market conditions in the longer term. On the contrary, the current drop in the level of demand is exceeding the budget cutbacks announced by the major oil companies and is evidenced by a sharp decline in the number of requests for bids from clients. Under such conditions, the company is taking and will continue to take all the operational and financial steps it deems necessary to enable it to adapt to this extremely unfavorable environment while at the same time keeping its ability to rebound when the market recovers.>> ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Food for thought; especially in light of understanding the fiduciary mindset of the Intnl Oil companies & Independants .Even with present Oil prices; I do not believe the Major Oils & Independants are going to be as aggressive as some seem to think with their Cap Ex spending through the 2nd half of 1999. The seismic orders are a good pre- indicator of expected exploration & drilling activity. This further reinforces my thoughts in heavilly over-weighting to small/micro cap domestic Natural Gas plays. Also; if you are a buy & holder, are willing to wait and ride out the recovery storm; here is a No-Brainer/ low risk - ''BUY" idea. per Ron Petersons comments/watch list on seismic co's. IO - a value play & a buyout candidate. Maybe the Buyout premium outweighs a nearterm ''deadmoney'' risk here.... Buy & Holders; it doesn't get any easier, or simpler than this: BUY IO ===================================================== Thursday May 6, 9:09 pm Eastern Time Input/Output attractive target - Business Week NEW YORK, May 6 (Reuters) - Input/Output Inc. (IO - news), maker of land and sea borne products used to collect seismic data, may be an attractive takeover target, analysts told Business Week in its May 17 issue. The stock is still in the doldrums, selling for about $7, compared with its high of 26 last May. Back then, it was rumored to be the takeover target of a number of companies, according to Business Week. Among its attributes is a selling price below its $8 book value, cash of $36.9 million and only $10 million in debt, the magazine said. The could mean the company could fetch as much as $15 per share, a strategist told Business Week. A company representative could not be reached for immediate comment Thursday evening. ===================================================== ie: <<To: Post_Patrol (44190 ) From: James Cherney Friday, May 7 1999 8:55AM ET Reply # of 44249 Post Patrol...Next Beach Outing!!!
