Barnesandnoble.com: A sleazy operation. This morning, for the third time, Barnesandnoble.com lied to me about the availability of one of their books. Their modus operandi is to promise shipping within 24 hours, so you buy from them. Then, a day later they reveal that they cannot ship for 72 hours. My wife tried to get a book about Alaska for her mom for Mother's day. If Barnesandnoble would be honest up front, you could go to a different vendor if your order is time-critical. This is the third time they have done this to us in the last 6 months. It is infuriating. Amazon.com has never done this to me in dozens of orders. It is a very short-sighted business policy. Because of this, I always start at Amazon.com, but sometimes end up taking the chance that Barnesandnoble.com will actually be able to deliver on their promise of 24 hour order processing. Here is my email to service@bn.com this morning.... <<1) Cancel my order. 2) Your policy of deliberately lying to your customers about the availability of your merchandise is short-sighted. You just prevented me from buying this book from some other online merchant last night, and from getting it in time for a Mother's day gift. You are really developing a reputation among people I know as a sleaze operation. I only use you as a vendor of last resort, and then with the unspoken understanding that you are probably lying about availability. Tom Service wrote: Thank you for your order. We apologize.
