Libit/Fujitsu have been working..... ompany Press Release SOURCE: Fujitsu Microelectronics Ltd. Fujitsu Introduces Second Generation Enhanced Performance QAM Demodulator at Even Lower Cost LONDON, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Microelectronics has announced the MB87L2070, an advanced generation DVB/DAVIC QAM demodulator. The new device offers improved performance and lower cost compared with the first generation device. Digital processing for the QAM was developed by Libit Signal Processing of Herzliah, Israel. Fabricated in Fujitsu's CMOS process and utilising advanced triple well mixed signal technology, the chip includes Fujitsu analogue macros. Incorporating Libit's well proven QAM technology, the device offers the highest performance and most cost-effective solution for DVB/DAVIC cable broadcast demodulation and is now available in sampling quantities together with full reference manuals and evaluation boards. The MB87L2070 design and fabrication technology enables lower die size and small package size (64pin PQFP) to be achieved at significant cost savings. The integration of the A/D and resampling algorithms, the use of low-cost tuners and the elimination of external VCXO and second down conversion stage allows for an overall cost reduction of the whole system. The MB87L2070 is compliant with DVB-C as well as ITU-J.83 annex A and C standards. It supports direct IF sampling with variable frequency up to 60MHz (for European, North American and Japanese IF frequencies) and includes a full QAM demodulation path including a 10-bit A/D function. Designed to work in 256 QAM on extremely noisy and distorted channels, the chip supports 256/128/64/32 QAM demodulation, with data rates of up to 56Mbits/sec in an 8MHz channel. It provides fast acquisition time of QAM signals (less then 20msec) and very low implementation loss. The device interfaces gluelessly to all the leading MPEG decoders currently on the market, including Fujitsu's MB87L2250 single chip decoder. To support variable demodulation symbol rates between 7 and 0.7Mbaud/sec the device only requires a single 8MHz SAW filter. This offers improved performance over the previous device for low baud rate signals. A unique filtering technique enables operation of such a system even in environments where extreme adjacent channel interference is prevalent. The MB87L2070 will be supplied with a full analogue front-end reference design, offering customers a quick and cost effective system integration path. The design supports multiple types of tuners. Fujitsu Microelectronics provides solutions for DVB interactive and cable set-top boxes, and DOCSIS two-way interactive set-top boxes, which also include cable modem functionality.
