3Com Cuts Price of Two Older PalmPilots as Much as 25 Percent

Santa Clara, California, May 6 (Bloomberg) -- 3Com Corp., the No. 2
maker of networking equipment, cut the price on two of its older
PalmPilot models as much as 25 percent as it looks to spur sales in
advance of a new version expected in June.

3Com cut the price of the Palm III to $249 from $299, a 17 percent
drop, and the older PalmPilot Professional Edition was cut 25 percent
to $149 from $199. The price of the Palm V was unchanged. 3Com
plans to begin shipping the Palm VII, which will have a
wireless Internet connection, next month.

The PalmPilot is the market-leading electronic organizer, with more
than 3 million units sold since its introduction in 1996.
The product line is 3Com's fastest-growing and contributes
about 10 percent of annual sales at 3Com,
which reported
less-than-expected revenue and profit for the quarter ended Feb. 26.

Santa Clara-based 3Com shares fell 7/16 to 25 7/16.
The company announced the price cuts after the close of
regular U.S. trading.
