Dave,

I don't think Q will have a difficult time engineering asics for W-CDMA. In fact, and I know this will really confound some points of view, the Q will produce W-CDMA that will be superior. And Why not?? They've been doing CDMA longer and have a larger body of knowledge than anyone else.

Regarding adaptive antennas. If you were to go back and read Dr. Viterbi's comments over the past years(check CDG) he mentions spatial diversity as being a way to increase networks capacity. Of course this refers to adaptive/smart antenna technology. And is true for many types of networks, not just CDMA. There is a lot of work being done on this in many quarters. In fact, most of the 3G proposals include provisions for "spot beams" as a way to increase network capacity.
