Just picked up the story on Bloomberg this morning, that the US Trade and Development Organization sponsored an event to encourage investment in the former Soviet states in the Caspian. Rob Jones, US diplomat to Khazakstan mentioned that the region is awash in oil, but needed investment in its electrical grid to foster the development of that country.
The story touched on the fact that there is great interest in investment there already by oil companies, but that other sectors are awaiting investment.
One main theme in the meeting was that despite its many great and outstanding resources, which resources included a very skilled work force in its people; was that old -style Russian business practices prevailed. For example, it is often expected that business people sign contracts first, then negotiate their business, not the other way around, as we in the West have come to expect.

All of us investors in Leah already have become quite aware that business practices are quite different, as we await some long- delayed earnings reports.
